Ethics and Confidentiality

I am committed to the ethical standards of BACP. I aim to work in your best interests at all times within ethical boundaries, reviewed and discussed with a supervisor. In this process no real names are used.

There is a caveat to the confidentiality of the therapy: if I consider you may physically harm yourself, or another, I may feel the need to contact others, such as your GP. I will always tell you what I intend to do and seek your cooperation first. I am required by law to tell the police or social services if you tell me of a crime or action which involves harm being done to a child; otherwise our sessions are confidentially ‘between you and me’.
